The undergraduates of the public universities have been home for about seven months now due to another ASUU strike that has resulted from the unwillingness or perhaps inability of the federal government to meet up with the demands of the Academic Staff Union of Universities.

Also, the Nigerian currency which is the Naira has not had it easy in the past couple of weeks as it has continued to fall against the dollar. The current exchange rate is N710 to $1.

Buhari and Threat of Impeachment

A couple of weeks ago, the members of the minority caucus of the National Assembly resolved to give the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari six weeks to look into and address the general insecurity in the nation or risk being impeached from office.

The agitation was birthed in the Red Chamber when a number of senators of the opposition opted to walk during a plenary session after the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan blocked a motion that had been moved by the house on insecurity and a call for a notice of impeachment to be made to the president.

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) caucus in the House of Assembly also joined in the 6-week ultimatum after a meeting of the National Assembly People’s Democratic Party caucus. It is important to note that the PDP is the biggest opposition in the Senate as well as the House of Representatives.

While the presidency described the threat of impeachment by the senators as babyish antics of the opposition, a couple of senators of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) have backed the move to impeach the president.
